What This Does

One setting in Housecall Pro automatically texts every customer a review request 1–2 hours after you mark their job complete — so you never forget to ask and never feel awkward asking in person.

Before You Start

  • Housecall Pro account (Essentials plan or higher)
  • Your Google Business Profile short review URL (you'll need this)
  • A few minutes to configure the message

Steps

1. Get Your Google Review Link

Before setting this up, get the direct review link for your Google Business Profile. Go to Google Business Profile (business.google.com), click Ask for reviews, and copy the short URL it provides. It looks like: g.page/[yourname]/review. Save this somewhere — you'll paste it into the Housecall Pro message.

2. Open Review Settings in Housecall Pro

In Housecall Pro, tap the menu icon (three lines) → SettingsNotifications → scroll to find Review Requests or Customer Reviews.

What you should see: A toggle to enable review requests and a text field to customize the message.

3. Enable Automatic Review Requests

Toggle Send Automatic Review Requests to ON. Set the timing to 1 hour after job is marked complete — this is the sweet spot. Too soon feels automated; too late and the moment has passed.

4. Customize the Message

Edit the default message to include your Google review link and sound like you, not a corporation. A good template:

Hi [customer name], thanks for having us out today! If you have a moment, an honest review on Google really helps our small business. Here's a direct link: [your Google review URL] — [Your first name], [Shop Name]

Keep it brief. The link is the most important part — make it one tap to get to the review form.

What you should see: A preview of exactly what the customer will receive as a text.

5. Test With Yourself

Enter your own phone number temporarily as a test customer, mark a test job complete, and confirm you receive the text. Check that the Google link works on your phone.

6. Turn It On and Forget It

Once tested, leave it running. Check in after 30 days — you should see a meaningful increase in Google reviews.

Real Example

Scenario: You clear a drain for a homeowner on a Tuesday afternoon. You mark the job Complete in Housecall Pro while packing up your truck.

What happens: One hour later, while you're on your next job, your customer receives: "Hi Mike, thanks for having us out today! If you have a moment, an honest Google review really helps our small business. [link] — Dave, Clear Flow Plumbing"

What you get: Mike taps the link, sees the 5-star rating form, and leaves you a review before dinner. You never had to ask.

Tips

  • Set a calendar reminder to check your Google review count monthly — the increase should be noticeable within 60 days
  • If a job had a problem or complaint, you can manually skip the review request by not marking it Complete until the issue is resolved
  • Reviews compound: each new review improves your ranking in Google Maps, which generates more calls without spending more on ads

Tool interfaces change — if a button has moved, look for similar Review or Notifications options in Housecall Pro Settings.
